When Leonardo spoke about saving Earth in his 2016 Oscar speech, we were expecting a plurry of efforts and movements from all over the world in the wake of saving planet Earth. But nothing of all that sort happened!
Making the world a better place is a continuous quest and this year as World Environment Day nears, the United Nations takes up the project #GenerationRestoration. The international organization focuses on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience to overcome the environmental crises.
There’s no denying we need a robust plan of action to overcome the threats that our Mother Earth faces. And of course, every individual effort counts. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the facts relating to the Day.

So, raising global awareness about desertification this year will be a pivotal moment in the history of UNCCD. Halting desertification will be a boon for our planet.

For instance, Canada hosted the 2017 World Environment Day with the theme ‘I’m With Nature’.
Save The Planet
A lot of issues are haunting our planet, from land degradation, desertification and drought to climate change. Saving the planet should be the duty of not only the United Nations but also every human being. While the organization is doing its bit every day, we need to do our part in conserving the environment.
It’s about time we adopted a minimalistic lifestyle that focuses on only the things that we need. We can make a huge difference in bringing positive changes to the environment by reducing our carbon footprint. Cycling to work, eating a healthy and balanced diet and not wasting food, reducing electricity usage, installing solar panels, recycling the things that are no longer needed are some of the ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
Moreover, this World Environment Day, you can encourage people around you to live a sustainable lifestyle for the betterment of the planet. For instance, giving up on plastic use, growing trees, volunteering for cleanups and picking sustainable fashion, etc. Remember that we need to take care of our environment and its species before time eventually runs out.
